Rain, Rain and More Rain

Yesterday afternoon not only did we have an aguacero, but the rain went on and on for hours, well into the night.  I’ve never seen the (temporary) flows of water on either side of the house in the gullies be so full.  It was impressive.  So was the new drainage system.  Last year, we had backups of water along the dog run.  So far this year, that’s not been a problem with the new drainage system.  But it’s also clear that it would be good to extend the Potrerillos Arriba Canal System on the  north end beyond the bodega and dig a couple of north-south connecting drainage ditches to the gullies.

Still, it was great this morning to walk without squelching through areas that previously have been problematic with standing water.

Poco a poco.

  1. Dear Joyce,
Sounds like Dario has more on his “to do ” list, sure nice to see the drainage trenches working so well. Hope Ethel, and Fred and the rest of the herd are doing much better today. We saw the rain clouds over Panama on our evening TV weather map, last night, and sure enough you confirmed it. Modern technology really is amazing. You all have a good day! Clyde

  2. Hi, Clyde!

Yes, Darío never lacks for things to do here.

As for the rain: today I had just a glimpse of one of the newspapers, and from the photo it looked as if panama City had sever flooding at least in some locales. I haven’t checked the online paper today, so I can’t say for sure. We took a friend from Volcan out for lunch for her birthday today, and she confirmed that Volcan, too, has had a lot of rain. yesterday in both places it just seemed as if the skies opened up and the proverbial flood came out. I know it didn’t rain that much in David. But both in Volcan and here, the weather has been more like mid-october than July.
