for PriceSmart electronics. About 5 weeks ago or so we bought a Belkin router there which seemed to work ok. Then we started having trouble with it. Mary (who handles things electronic in this household) in desperation finally called a técnico at MobilNet to see if there was anything that could be done at that end. Naturally, the router quit totally then–a few days past warranty.

This is really surprising since routers are so simple. Did it fail electronically? I have had only one problem with mine following a storm, when I thought it wasn’t working, but after uplugging it, which normally resets most electronics of that type, I plugged it back in and it was fine again.
If no lights come on, then it is a bad unit. I personally think any problem with an item like this will happen if you buy it from PriceSmart or Pars. Belkin is a good brand.
No lights came on the final time. We were having problems with it “connecting” internationally; it was so slow that the server would time out. Mary tried every combination under the sun. It finally failed the other day–completely–when she and the técnico were on their second discussion. That router had been unplugged and plugged in again numerous times.
Yes, I agree with what you say. Belkin is a good brand. This particular model had very good reviews. But once again it’s PriceSmart. This is now the third time with trouble with electronics, and that’s enough. It could very well be as you say, but I for one am unwilling to beat my head against that particular wall another time.
I really do believe in the saying “Once is by chance, twice is a pattern, three times they’re out to get you”.
